Presentation software is, not surprisingly, software used for creating presentations that are meant to be shown with the aid of a computer. Presentation software applications include:
- PowerPoint, which is part of Microsoft Office
- Impress, from either Apache Open Office and Libre Office (either can be downloaded for free)
- Slides, which is part of Google Drive
- Prezi, an online tool that requires an account but does offer some functionality for free.
In this tutorial, we will look at how to use Powerpoint or Google Slides (your choice), but the techniques that you learn will apply generally to any of the applications.
Important Note
It is easy to make a confusing or overwhelming presentation. There are so many different features that we are often tempted to include all the bells and whistles that we can, with the result that the audience can’t really tell what information we are trying to communicate. There are many suggestions online about how to make a good presentation and the central piece of advice is to keep your slides simple.
