Assignment 2.1.1 Applications

Find an application program on your computer (do not choose Word or a web browser). Open the program and explore its functions briefly, then answer the following questions.

  1. What application did you open?
  2. What steps did you take to open it?
  3. What does the application do? (Answer in one or two sentences.)
  4. Is this application an example of software or hardware?
  5. How did you close this application?

You can type your answers in this editable form, then print out and hand it (or email it) into your instructor. Don’t forget to include your name, the date and the assignment number in the document.

  2. Found icon on the desktop and double-clicked on it with a mouse. Or: used Start icon and searched list of applications, clicked on name.

Assignment 2.3.1 Computer terminology and acronyms

Name and define six terms and acronyms (three each) that were new for you. You can type your answers in Word, then print out your document and hand it in to your instructor. Or, you may email your response to your instructor. Don’t forget to include your name, the date and the assignment number in your document or e-mail.

Assignment 2.4.1 Hardware and software

Answer the following two questions – use your imagination!
1) What sort of computer hardware would you like to try out, and why? Answer in a few sentences. Don’t forget that computer hardware could be anything from a desktop computer, to a smart phone, to a robot, to a self-driving car.
2) Do you have an idea for a great software application that you would like to develop? If so, please describe your idea in a few sentences. OR: What software would you like to try out, and why? This could be anything from a good word processing system to virtual reality. Answer in a few sentences.
